Five-star QB Gunner Stockton, who follows Georgia on the Crystal Ball

Georgia has a lot of momentum for a five-star quarterback in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Bulldogs like the Crystal Ball led for Gunner Stockton (Rabun County; Tiger, Georgia) after four consecutive choices had taken place.

UGA now has 50% of enrollments, followed by South Carolina with 43.8% and Auburn with 6.2%. These South Carolina choices are a little out of date because Stockton was committed to the Gamecocks when Mike Bobo was still the offensive coordinator there. Shortly after leaving to assume the same position at Auburn, Stockton reopened his recruitment.

At 1.80 meters tall and 220 pounds, Stockton is the 27th overall player in the country and the No. 1 double threat quarterback in the 2022 category. He is the third overall prospect in Georgia for those same rankings.

Stubby outlook in the quarterback that does not appear to have significant growth potential. Good athlete with experience in baseball and active feet in his pocket. He can extend plays when necessary and counted more than 700 running yards as a freshman against limited competition. He is able to make some advanced shots and show the touch and placement of the ball in the field below. Shows creativity and competence delivering on screens and RPO plays on the go. Comfortable making the narrow windows appear to be thrown with speed. It is still in an early stage of development and shows the need to load large balls. It has a tendency to pass the step with the front foot and may loosen mechanically. Very early stages of a potential NFL client, but significant experience and development are still needed. – Barton Simmons

In three years of playing high school, Stockton accumulated 9,518 yards and 122 touchdowns, completing just over 68% of his passes. He also has 3,416 run yards and 70 run touchdowns on 467 loads, averaging 7.3 yards per tote.

Stockton would give Georgia a second blue chip quarterback from Peach State in so many classes. The Bulldogs hired Brock Vandagriff in the 2021 class and he has already joined the team as one of the first entries. Stockton is also expected to enroll in January 2022 at the school of his choice.
