Five-star C Enoch Boakye resigns from Michigan

Michigan’s 2022 basketball recruiting class was cut in half as a five-star center Enoch Boakye canceled the MSU commitment, confirmed Spartan Tailgate. The 1.8-meter-tall, 110-kilogram Canadian man made a verbal commitment to Tom Izzo’s program on July 28, 2020.

Boakye school coach George Aramide posted the following message on Instagram: “Thanks for the love and support of everyone !!! We love Tom Izzo and the rest of the MSU team, but at this point we plan to go in a different direction with that said (Boakye) will be opening his recruitment again !! Thank you and God bless “

With Boakye reopening his recruitment, MSU’s only remaining commitment in 2022 is from the star of the Ypsi Prep Academy Emoni Bates, the class’s No. 1 prospect. Bates committed to MSU on June 29, 2020.

A five-star perspective on the 247Sports ranking, Boakye is the 20th overall recruit, the 4th center and the No. 1 player in Ontario, Canada, in the 2022 class. nationally, No. 4 among centers and No. 1 in Ontario.

247Sports recruiting analyst Josh Gershon wrote the following Boakye review: “Talent comes with an extremely high advantage. Impressive structure with broad shoulders and long arms to match very good hands for a young stand. Has legitimate body control and ball skills for the position; you can catch the rebound and start the break. Plus the athlete and the strength around the basket due to the size and the engine. It could improve your posting and touch movements. It has the upper part as an edge protector. Floor is the holder of the college, but has an easy advantage in the NBA. “

The Spartans signed a recruiting class of three men in 2021 for five-star shooting guards Max Christiefour star sniper guard Pierre Brooks II and four star point guard Jaden Akins. Both Bates and Boakye had previously spoken about the potential reclassification to the 2021 recruitment class.

The current MSU team is 10-8 overall and 4-8 in the Big Ten game going to the game Tuesday night in Purdue.
