five Gamecocks receive All-SEC honors

Five South Carolina football players received All-SEC recognition.

With the SEC’s regular season and conference title now complete, coaches took the time to acknowledge the achievements of the 14 league members and teams. It was an atypical college football season, with each SEC program playing a list of ten games, just for conferences.

As for Gamecocks, they certainly saw their difficulties while navigating the calendar for all leagues and, despite not having achieved the desired results, the team saw five players rewarded for their game this year.

The South Carolina football players selected for the All-SEC teams are listed below.

First Team All-SEC

52

JJ Enagbare

DL University of South Carolina

Enagbare was the only Gamecock to receive first-team honors after leading the league with three forced fumbles and finishing second with six sacks. He posted these impressive numbers, despite having lost the team’s final two games due to an injury.

In the season, the junior ended with 30 falls in total, a new career record.

Second All-SEC Team

20

Kevin Harris

RB University of South Carolina

Harris was despised by the first team, despite becoming the first Gamecock to lead the SEC in racing. He won the regular season crown with a season of 1,138 yards, scoring 15 touchdowns in the year.

Harris posted two games of 200 yards or more and eclipsed the century mark five times. His best game of the year was a 243-yard blast against Ole Miss, where he totaled a five-point program record.

1

Jaycee horn

DB University of South Carolina

Horn drew for the team’s lead in the interceptions, getting two passes of the year. Both came in the Gamecocks’ victory over No. 15 Auburn, a game in which he solidified his status as a first-round draft pick. He also accumulated 16 tackles and six pass separations.

Horn may have had the opportunity to receive first-team honors if he had played the team’s last three games, but as it stands, the blocking corner becomes the first defensive Gamecock to fall on a team of All-SEC coaches since DJ Swearinger in 2012

Freshman team

39

Kai Kroeger

P University of South Carolina

Kroeger registered a large number as a freshman, pulling 39 punts for an average of 43.3 yards per attempt. The special coach was the punt team holder from the start, and certainly did not disappoint.

Kroeger averaged more than 40 yards per kick in each of the nine games after the season opened, recording a long 53. He finished with seven punts of 50 yards or more and was named Player of the Week Special Teams after a five punt performance against Auburn, where he immobilized the Tigers within his own 20-yard line three different times.

LB

Mohamed Kaba

LB University of South Carolina

Kaba managed three games in his freshman season, and had 13 takedowns in nine action games. The North Carolina native had the best performance in the last two Gamecocks matches, accumulating a record of his career with five tackles against Georgia, followed by a four tackle outing against Kentucky.

Kaba’s freshman year is something to build on as the Gamecocks seek to replace linebacker Ernest Jones in the midst of the 2021 defense.
