Five children among six killed in Oklahoma shooting

Six people were shot dead on Tuesday at a home in Oklahoma, including five children, and a suspect in the murders was taken into custody, police said. Police officers responded at around 1:30 am to a call from several people shot at a home in Muskogee, a town of just under 40,000 people about 72 kilometers southeast of Tulsa, police said in a statement.

Once there, police officers found a person with a gun, according to the statement. A police officer shot the suspect and missed while the suspect fled the scene, but was later taken into custody.

Officers at the scene found one man and four children dead, and a fifth child died in a Tulsa hospital, police said.

Muskogee police officer Lynn Hamlin described the murdered youth as “small children” but said the police are not yet of an exact age. She said the authorities do not yet have a reason, but do not believe that other suspects are involved.

“We don’t think it’s random, but we just don’t have details yet as to why or what happened,” said Hamlin.

A woman was also taken to the hospital with fatal injuries, she said.

The authorities did not release the name of the person arrested or any additional details about the people who died. The police are expected to release more information on Tuesday.

The teams work on the scene after a deadly shooting at a home in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on February 2, 2021.
