fitbit: Read Fitbit CEO James Park’s open letter to users – Latest News

Google completed its $ 2.1 billion acquisition of Fitbit, the leading manufacturer of wearables. The company’s CEO, James Park, welcomed the news and said the deal will help Fitbit “innovate faster, provide more options and make products even better”. He also wrote an open letter to Fitbit users assuring them that their data will be protected. Park reiterated Fitbit’s promise of privacy and said it will remain critical to the company. He added that Fitbit devices will continue to work with Google Android and Apple iOS platforms. Here is the letter from Fitbit’s CEO to users:

I am writing today to inform you that Fitbit is now officially part of Google. It’s an incredibly exciting time for us as a company and for our Fitbit user community around the world.

When Eric and I founded Fitbit 13 years ago, we did it with a simple but bold idea: to make everyone in the world healthier. Since the launch of the original Fitbit tracker in 2009 to now have sold more than 120 million devices in more than 100 countries, this mission has never wavered. Instead, millions of you joined this mission and made Fitbit a life-changing movement. In some cases, we hear from our users that we even help save lives. Together, we took 275 trillion steps and recorded more than 15 billion hours of sleep.

This is just the beginning because becoming part of the Google family means that we can do even more to inspire and motivate you on your journey to better health. We will be able to innovate faster, provide more options and make even better products to meet your health and wellness needs. On our own, we push the limits of what was possible with the pulse, pioneering step, heart rate, sleep and stress tracking. With access to Google’s incredible resources, knowledge and global platform, the possibilities are truly limitless.

I have no doubt that this acquisition will create so many opportunities. But I also want you to know that many of the things you know and love about Fitbit will remain the same. We will remain committed to doing the right thing, putting your health and well-being at the center of everything we do and offering an approach that doesn’t fit everyone with options that work on both Android and iOS.

The trust of our users will continue to be fundamental, and we will maintain strong data privacy and security protections, giving you control over your data and maintaining transparency about what we collect and why. Google will continue to protect the privacy of Fitbit users and has made a number of binding commitments to global regulators, confirming that the health and wellbeing data of Fitbit users will not be used for Google ads and that data will be maintained separate from other Google ad data. Google also said it will continue to allow Fitbit users to choose to connect to third-party services. This means that you can still connect your favorite health and wellness apps to your Fitbit account. These and other Google commitments reinforce why Google is an ideal partner for Fitbit, which will continue to put our users first and help promote our mission to make everyone healthier in the world.

Thank you for letting us be part of your lives and your journey to health.

Regards,

James Park
