At the Mortal combat, MMA fighter Cole Young, used to taking a beating for money, doesn’t know about his heritage – or why Emperor Shang Tsung of Outworld sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, a cryomancer from another world, to hunt Cole. Fearing for the safety of his family, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade in the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who carries the same strange dragon that Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself in the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who carry the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and the devious mercenary Kano, as he prepares to take on Earth’s greatest champions against Outworld’s enemies in a high-risk battle across the universe. But will Cole be pressured enough to unlock his arcanum – the immense power within his soul – in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

Two Mortal combat films have been made previously. The first, simply entitled Mortal combat, was directed by Paul WS Anderson and released in 1995. Two years later came a sequel, Annihilation, which also paved the way for two television series: the animated Kingdom Defenders and the live action Konquest. Two web series were launched based on ownership also by director Kevin Tancharoen.

Mortal combat is scheduled to hit theaters and HBO Max simultaneously on April 16!
