First look at the Benson and Stabler’s meeting

After COVID-related delays, Mariska Hargitay just teased what the long-awaited Benson and Stabler reunion will be like in Law & Order: SVU.

Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler are together again in a new image of Law and Order: SVU. Almost a decade after the original Law and order exited, SVU was released and became even more popular than the original. Now, more than 500 episodes later, Law and Order: SVU continues with Stabler returning to the series. Fans of the police procedure will finally have their long-awaited reunion after a series of delays mainly due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In March 2020, news emerged that, after almost a decade since Christopher Meloni left SVU, he is finally scheduled to return. The original plan was to see it at the premiere of the 22nd season, but due to difficulties in filming due to the ongoing global pandemic, it was postponed to some point in 2021. A part of the original cast of the program when it premiered in 1999, the actor abruptly left The Law and order by-product on the heels of season 12, after failing to renegotiate a new contract. Despite this, he remained close friends with Mariska Hargitay, maintaining viewers’ hopes that he will eventually return alive.

Now, this is finally happening with Meloni back on the set of SVU with your co-star. Hargitay gave fans this update after sharing an image of her and Meloni on set while filming. In the caption, she further increases the enthusiasm for her long-awaited on-screen meeting by writing, “Now even closer …”

Meloni’s return in Law and Order: SVU it is not permanent. After his initial meeting with Benson and Finn, he is ready to lead his own spin-off, Law and Order: Organized Crime. It is safe to say that whatever is going on in his first appearance will be linked to this new branch of Dick Wolf, although no official premise has yet been released. It is important to note that part of the original plan to bring him back involved returning his family first at the end of season 21, but again, due to the coronavirus pandemic, everything was discarded. The new show was due to open in October, but its creatives were having a hard time deciphering its story, resulting in its showrunner, Matt Olmstead, abandoning it completely.

Since there is no context provided, it is difficult to assess exactly what is happening in this image; there is not even any indication of where Hargitay and Meloni are filming, as they seem to be facing a generic scenario. What’s interesting here, however, is that Elliot is back in his typical detective costume. It is important to remember that when Law and order: SVU struggling to get him out of the series at the end of season 12, it was said that he is prematurely retiring from service. Since then, there has been almost no mention of him and his whereabouts. Now, however, it looks like he’s back on the ground, just like things were with him and Benson before he left.
