ST. GEORGE – The first reserve slots in February to receive the COVID-19 vaccine were opened in southern Utah. In addition, reserve slots are now available for those receiving their second injection of the vaccine to complete the inoculation.

Almost all of the reserve slots for the rest of January were filled within hours of being released by the Southwest Utah Department of Public Health last Monday, and technical problems with the department’s website also caused users frustration.

A health department spokesman said on Thursday that the site’s problems had been resolved.

The slots are available at the links below. There is also a specialized hotline at 435-986-2549, although residents are asked to use the hotline only if they have difficulty accessing the Internet.

Currently, vaccines are available for people aged 70 and over, as well as for elementary and high school teachers, first responders and health professionals.

Separate clinics for the second injection are also open to those who received their first vaccine injection on or before January 4. A second injection is necessary to receive full immunity against the coronavirus.
