FIRST DAY OF TODAY’S ALERT TIME!

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Today is the FIRST DAY OF ALERT TIME, as we track the potential for some severe to severe storms this afternoon and night. A low pressure area will move from the Florida Gulf coast to southern Georgia today, bringing increased rain to that area. Although the threat is low, gusts of wind, small hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out of the Florida Panhandle, passing through southeastern Georgia and reaching the coast of South Carolina. At the moment, it looks like the best chance of bad weather today it will be to the south, but we will give the FIRST ALERT if something changes. The biggest problem will be the threat of heavy rains in the interior, where several centimeters have already fallen today. The rain will likely continue tonight and intermittently during Friday. The showers are expected to end on Friday night, with a drier climate arriving over the weekend. We expect a sunny and cool weekend with highs in the 50’s.
