First call: Bruce Arians compares Tampa Bay to the Super Bowl XL Steelers; great night for (many) former penguins

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians shares some fond memories of the Steelers Super Bowl XL team.

Matt Stafford’s Detroit mansion is for sale. So, obviously, he’s coming to Pittsburgh.

And many ex-Penguins have had great nights in the NHL. Well, not every ex-Penguin. See if you can guess which one.

All of this on Wednesday’s “First Call”.

Sounds familiar?

Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians appeared on NBCSN’s “The Rich Eisen Show” on Tuesday. And he seems optimistic about his team’s chances of winning the Super Bowl LV over the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday.

Because? Because, in his words, this team reminds him of the Steelers who won the 2005 Super Bowl XL. Arians was the coach of the team’s wide receivers.

The Aryans told Eisen that his wife did the correlation. Then he detailed the numbers and started to see some similarities.

Both teams were 7-5 after 12 games. Both teams had to win three playoff games. And both teams play excellent complementary football with strong team unity.

“The camaraderie on the margins,” explained Arians. “The way this team works. The attack can take away the defense. Special teams can remove everyone. The defense withdraws the attack. Everyone has a lot of fun doing it. “

Well, if Arians are right about the trend to continue against the Chiefs, expect Tampa to receive some lucky penalty flags. Look for Leonard Fournette for a 75-yard touchdown run. And expect a maneuver pass from Antonio Brown to Mike Evans.

So, wait for Steelers fans to stop thinking that this analogy is so beautiful.

Stafford Estate for sale

Detroit quarterback Matt Stafford is one of many NFL quarterbacks expected to be on the move this season.

It certainly looks like he’s expecting this, based on this little real estate rumor.

Stafford has two years and $ 43 million remaining in his $ 135 million contract signed in 2017. He receives a $ 10 million bonus on the fifth day of the league year in March. So even if he doesn’t get $ 6.5 million for the house, I don’t think he and his family will starve.

You know how this news will end up in Pittsburgh, right?

“Hey, Stan. Love the show.

“Yinz knows that if Stafford gets a lot more, he can just rent one of them near the hot metal bridge. So spend less to go to the Stillers and back up Big Ben for a year. Bang! Make it happen. I will hang up and listen. “

This is too much

While the Penguins were losing 3-2 to Boston Bruins in overtime on Tuesday night, it was quite a night for the former Penguins during the other NHL games.

Justin Schultz and Daniel Sprong scored in the Washington Capitals’ 3-2 win over the New York Islanders.

Patric Hornqvist entered the table during the Florida Panthers’ 4-3 victory in Columbus, scoring with just three seconds remaining in regulation time.

This is already his fourth goal. And he won the shootout winner too.

Remember David Perron? He had two and one in the shootout during a 5-4 win at the St. Louis Blues in Las Vegas.

Even Pittsburgh native Brandon Saad had a pair when his Colorado Avalanche won 7-3 over the San Jose Sharks.

I know I know. As if the overtime in Boston wasn’t painful enough.

Jabbing Jack

Meanwhile, providing balance to the universe, I introduce you to Jack Johnson.

The maligned ex-Penguin is not having an easy time in New York. The defender took a penalty, leading to a goal from Buffalo. And Rangers fans and the media reacted with the usual, um, patience and forgiveness that Johnson usually got in Pittsburgh.

Yes. This seems quite consistent. The Rangers ended up losing 3-2. So far, Johnson has minus-4 in five games without points.

Take advantage of this acquisition, New York. I hope Jameson Taillon will work better for you.
