PALM BEACH, Florida (WKOW) – In Palm Beach County, Florida, the first baby was born with antibodies against COVID-19 after his mother was vaccinated.
The girl had her blood collected after she was born in late January and tests confirmed that he had antibodies against COVID-19, the WPBF reported yesterday.
The mother, a front-line health professional, got the COVID-19 vaccine about three weeks before the girl’s birth, according to the WPBF.
Local pediatricians published an article in medRxiv about the finding.
“Here, we report the first known case of a baby with detectable IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in umbilical cord blood after maternal vaccination,” they wrote in the article.
The authors noted that further studies were needed to determine how long babies could have antibody protection against COVID-19 after birth.
