Ted Cruz’s supporters are trying to justify his disappearance, saying there was nothing the senator could do to help Texas in a time of crisis. But Miles Taylor, a former head of homeland security, disagrees. “It’s a big mess,” he says of Ted Cruz fleeing to Cancun, when things got tough for millions in Texas.
“In Ted’s re-election, that will be the central question. This guy prefers to vacation in Mexico when people are dying than to be there to manage the answer.”
Although senators are not part of the “structure that manages the response”, Taylor explains in this Meidas Touch podcast why Cruz runs to the mountains, er, beach “will chase him until reelection”. And why, “now Beto O’Rourke looks like he’s being the real Texan, and Ted Cruz looks like a slob.”
