It’s no secret that we think Columbia (and South Carolina in general) It’s beautiful perfect image. And, it seems, we are not the only ones to think so. Views from the State House to the Williams-Brice Stadium, some iconic points of Columbia + South Carolina even reached films shot in our area.

Films shot in Columbia

🎬 108 points (Starring Robby Welles, Jennifer Austin + Rick Marzan, directed by Bob Haas): This 2001 baseball film was shot entirely in Columbia.

🎬 A guy named Joe (Starring Spencer Tracy + Irene Dunne, directed by Victor Fleming): Aerial scenes, sets + process shots were filmed at Columbia Army Air Force Base.

🎬 A line in the sand (Starring Gary Weeks + Rob Botts, directed by Rob Botts): Columbia was one of many filing locations in the United States selected for this film.

🎬 Accidental love (Starring Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal + James Marsden, directed by David O. Russell): The scenes were filmed around Columbia, including in and around the State House.

🎬 CEO (Starring Liang Shi + Zong-Hua Li, directed by Tian-Ming Wu): This film can be set in China, but many of its scenes were shot in the United States, including Columbia and Camden.

🎬 Bonfire Tales (Starring Gunnar Hansen + Kevin Draine, directed by William Cooke + Paul Talbot): This scary movie was shot entirely in South Carolina, Columbia and Hunting Island.

🎬 Chattahoochee (Starring Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper + Pamela Reed, directed by Mick Jackson): Three cities around South Carolina, including Columbia, were used to set the scene for this 1989 film in Florida.

🎬 Death penalty (Starring Kevin Bacon + Kelly Preston, directed by James Wan): This thriller has Columbia written all over it. Not only was the film shot here, but the story is actually set in Columbia. In addition, during the filming of the 2007 film, a Teen columbia was selected to play a secondary role.

🎬 Freak show (Starring Gunnar Hansen + Jennifer Peluso, directed by William Cooke + Paul Talbot): It is no surprise that Columbia was chosen as the filming location for this independent film, as its producer, Jeff Miller, grew up in Cayce and graduated from UofSC. The film aired on Nick after its release in 1995.

🎬 Modern love (Starring Robby Benson + Karla DeVito, directed by Robby Benson): This 1990 film was not only shot in Columbia, but also included several young actresses from the region.

🎬 Stay together (Starring Sean Astin + Stockard Channing, directed by Lee Grant): This “small town” film was shot in Columbia and Ridgeway.

🎬 The Last Confederate: The Robert Adams Story (Starring Eric Holloway + Tippi Hedren, directed by Julian Adams + A. Blaine Miller): This Civil War drama was filmed in several locations in North and South Carolina, including Wavering Place Plantation here in Columbia.

🎬 The program (Starring Halle Berry + James Caan, directed by David S. Ward): This football film can be set in a fictional university, but the included scenes at Williams-Brice Stadium and other locations around Columbia are very real.

🎬 Ace Ventura: when nature calls (Starring Jim Carrey, directed by Steve Oedekerk): South Carolina scenes, including Botany Bay Plantation on Edisto Island and Cherokee Plantation in Yemassee.

🎬 Cold mountain (Starring Jude Law, Nicole Kidman + Renee Zellweger, directed by Anthony Minghella): Scenes with College of Charleston + Cypress Gardens near Moncks Corner.

🎬 Stormy days (Starring Tom Cruise, Robert Duvall + Nicole Kidman, directed by Tony Scott): Scenes with the Darlington Raceway.

🎬 Dear John (Starring Channing Tatum + Amanda Seyfried, directed by Lasse Hallström): The scenes were filmed at the Palms Island fishing pier, the College of Charleston’s Randolph Hall, Charleston Air Force Base and the Citadel infirmary. The Cassina Point Plantation on Edisto Island depicted the family home, with several scenes from Sullivan’s Island.

🎬 Release (Starring Jon Voight + Burt Reynolds, directed by John Boorman): Scenes shot in Beaufort and Oconee County. Specifically, Lake Jocassee was featured at the end of the film while it was being flooded.

🎬 Die Hard: with a vengeance (Starring Bruce Willis + Samuel L. Jackson, directed by John McTiernan): Scenes of subway crashes were staged to look like New York, but they were filmed at General Dynamics’ former North Charleston plant. The geyser scene was shot in Summerville + other scenes were shot in Dorchester, Charleston, Berkeley County and Beaufort.

🎬 Nature forces (Starring Sandra Bullock + Ben Affleck, directed by Bronwen Hughes): Scenes from the South of the Border amusement park in Dillon and a private residence known as “The Castle” in downtown Beaufort.

🎬 Forrest Gump (Starring Tom Hanks + Robin Wright, directed by Robert Zemeckis): Scenes from the USC Beaufort, the Chowan Creek Bridge and the island of Saint Helena. Gump’s boarding house is privately owned in Colleton County, Port Royal was the setting for the shrimp boat hurricane scene and Fripp Island was used during some of the Vietnam War scenes, with other scenes filmed on the Island Hunting. 🎬 GI Jane (Starring Demi Moore, directed by Ridley Scott): Some scenes were filmed at Hunting Island State Park in Beaufort County.

🎬 Leatherheads (Starring George Clooney, Renée Zellweger, + John Krasinski, directed by George Clooney): The scenes were filmed in Greenville, downtown Greer, Travelers Rest + Anderson. You can read details on here.

🎬 Radio (Starring Cuba Gooding Jr. + Ed Harris, directed by Michael Tollin): TL Hanna was being remodeled while filming, so Hampton Street Elementary in Walterboro was used first (Curiosity – this school was also used in Forrest Gump).

🎬 Sleeping with the enemy (Starring Julia Roberts + Patrick Bergin, directed by Joseph Ruben): Featuring the swimming pool at Converse College in Spartanburg, the Abbeville Opera House, with scenes filmed at Presbyterian College.

🎬 Something to talk about (Starring Julia Roberts + Dennis Quaid, directed by Lasse Hallström): After the director fell in love with Davant Plantation in Gillisonville, it was the first filming location selected for this film. Other South Carolina landmarks were also featured in this film, including Michael Rainey Antiques in Beaufort.

🎬 That damn cat (Starring Dean Jones, Hayley Mills + Dororthy Provine, directed by Robert Stevenson): Shot in Aiken, Edgefield and North Augusta.

🎬 The longest Garden (Starring Burt Reynolds + Eddie Albert, directed by Robert Aldrich): Not the 2005 Adam Sander remake, but the original 1997 football comedy had a few scenes shot on Hilton Head.

🎬 The notebook (Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams + Tim Ivey, directed by Nick Cassavetes): College of Charleston was used as a backdrop for Allie’s college, while Boone Hall Plantation was used for scenes from Hamilton’s summer home. The house that Noah rebuilt was at Martins Point Plantation (historically known as Bears Bluff Plantation), and the lake scene with all the swans was filmed in Cypress Gardens. The nursing home scenes were filmed at Rice Hope Plantation, while the Old Village in Mount Pleasant provided the backdrop for the fictional town of Seabrook. 🎬 The Patriot (Starring Mel Gibson + Heath Ledger, directed by Roland Emmerich): Productions headquarters was anchored in Rock Hill, with Darby Farm filmed in Chester County, featuring scenes on Edisto Island, Middleton Place Plantation + most.

🎬 Strangers (Starring Liv Tyler + Scott Speedman, directed by Bryan Bertino): Filmed in Florence during the fall of 2006.

🎬 Who’s your caddy? (Starring Sherri Shepherd + Faizon Love, directed by Don Michael Paul): All non-golf scenes were filmed in Aiken.
