Films eligible for the Oscar 2021 – Variety

The Academy released a list of 366 feature films in the running for the 93rd Oscar. The number of eligible films has increased from the 344 entries in 2019, although it is not an AMPAS record. This is the highest total since the 1970 awards, which had 374 qualified entries.

All expected candidates for the award are among the “list of production reminders eligible for the 93rd Oscar”, which includes “The Father” by Florian Zeller, “Judas and the Black Messiah” by Shaka King, “Minari” by Lee Isaac Chung , “Minari” “News of the World”, “One Night in Miami” by Regina King, “Promising Young Woman” by Emerald Fennell, “Nomadland” by Chloé Zhao, “Soul” by Pete Docter and Kemp Powers and “The Trial of the Chicago 7 ”by Aaron Sorkin. “

Some of the less conventional competitors are also on the list, including Robert Downey Jr.’s family photo “Dolittle”, the horror film “The Empty Man” by David Pryor and the documentary “You Cannot Kill David Arquette” by Price James and David Darg.

Durante o Oscar inaugural, que celebrou as fotos de 1927 e 1928, havia 562 títulos na lista de lembretes. A AMPAS não tinha as mesmas diretrizes claras e rígidas que existem hoje. Antes de 1950, as Listas de Lembretes não apresentavam todos os filmes elegíveis. De 1940 a 1944, as Reminder Lists tinham menos títulos por escolha do estúdio. Os estúdios selecionariam quais filmes apareceriam, limitando a lista a cerca de um terço dos títulos elegíveis. Somente em 1987 (ano da vitória de “O Último Imperador”) a AMPAS mudou suas regras para que apenas os títulos incluídos na Lista de Lembretes pudessem ser nomeados.

A votação para os membros da AMPAS começa em 5 de março e termina em 10 de março, com as nomeações programadas para serem anunciadas em 15 de março. A cerimônia está marcada para 25 de abril em vários locais, incluindo o Dolby Theatre.
