UFC fighters who use marijuana can now rest a little easier with the new change in the promotion’s anti-doping policy.
Athletes who test positive for carboxy-THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, will no longer be punished by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency according to the UFC’s anti-doping policy, it was announced on Thursday.
Positive tests for carboxy-THC, regardless of levels, will not be considered a policy violation “unless there is additional evidence that an athlete intentionally used it for performance improvement purposes.”
While the policy change does not directly affect state athletic commission regulations, it is an improvement in reducing the potential regulatory consequences that fighters may face from using marijuana.
It is a great relief for UFC fighters, some of whom have accessed Twitter to share their reactions.
