FIFA 21 regained first place in the United Kingdom after losing its coveted No. 1 position at Christmas last week.
EA’s football game increased sales by 8% in terms of physical box copies only.
That means last week’s number 1, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, dropped to number 2 after a 21% drop in sales week by week. With the chart going through the Christmas Day period, it’s not entirely surprising to see sales drop for most games. Animal Crossing: New Horizons rises to No.3, despite sales dropping 20% week by week, while Mario Kart 8: Deluxe jumps to No.4, despite an 8% drop. To close the Top Five, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War drops from No.2 to No.5, after a 42% drop in sales.
The big December release, Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt, dropped to eighth, after a 57% drop in sales. Remember, all of this is purely based on the physical sales of the game.
Other games that make up the Top Ten include Spider-Man Miles Morales for PS4 and PS5 (which holds position 6 after a 31% drop in sales), Just Dance 2021 (moving up one position to 7th position, despite a drop in sales of 28%), Super Mario 3D All-Stars (rose one to No.9 with sales below 25%) and Minecraft on Switch (rose one to 10 after a 26% drop in sales).
Just Dance 2021 was a real success for Ubisoft. There is only a week to replace Watch Dogs Legion as the publisher’s second biggest game of the year (behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla), and its sales after seven weeks are 35% above Just Dance 2020 in the same period.
Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe has had its best year so far. The Nintendo Switch game has been selling better and better every year since it was released, which was in 2017.
