Female pedestrian is run over and killed by Amtrak train near Santa Bárbara | Local News

A pedestrian was run over by an Amtrak train and killed near Santa Barbara on Friday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses saw a person jump from a train overpass on Hollister Avenue, near Modoc Road, to the train path, according to emergency radio traffic, but this could not be confirmed immediately.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, said Raquel Zick, the sheriff’s spokesman.

The incident involved an Amtrak Coast Starlight train to the north.

Firefighters from Santa Barbara County, sheriff’s deputies and an AMR ambulance responded to the scene at 1:13 pm

Train traffic was disrupted in the area, according to the head of the Santa Barbara County Fire Brigade, Daniel Bertucelli.

The victim’s name was not released until family members were notified.

The police continued to investigate the incident, Bertucelli said.
