Feinstein says Senate should study obstruction reform

After President Joe Biden recently suggested that he would be in favor of a return to a “talking obstructionist”, Senator Dianne Feinstein said on Friday that the Senate should consider changing the obstruction rules.

The California Democrat said that, ideally, the Senate would meet in a bipartisan manner to pass legislation on gun background checks and voting rights, among other things.

“But if that proves impossible and Republicans continue to abuse obstruction by requiring votes of coagulation, I am open to changing the way the Senate’s obstruction rules are used,” Feinstein said in a statement on Friday, saying that a talking obstruction should be considered, pointing to Biden’s support for this. “I don’t want to stray from the Senate’s traditions, but I also don’t believe that a party should be able to prevent voting on important projects by abusing obstruction.”
