The United States Capitol Police confirmed that the devices may have caused “major damage”.
The FBI shared a photo of the person responsible for placing the suspected explosive devices outside the Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee on Wednesday, ahead of the US Capitol protests.
On Thursday night, the FBI tweeted a photo of the suspect and posted a reward of up to $ 50,000 “for information leading to the location, arrest and conviction of the person (s) responsible for placing suspicious bombs. in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021. “
At around 1 pm on Wednesday, law enforcement agencies received reports of two suspected wired tubular bombs outside the RNC and DNC headquarters in Washington, DC
ABC News then obtained an exclusive photo of the suspect explosive device found outside the RNC, which is located just a few blocks away from the Capitol.
A federal law enforcement source told ABC News that the suspicious bombs were indeed active, and the United States Capitol Police confirmed that the devices may have caused “major damage”.
“The USCP’s hazardous material response team determined that both devices were, in fact, hazardous and could cause major damage to public security,” the police said in a statement.
Bomb technicians used water cannons to blow up devices to separate them and render them harmless, just as the violent pro-Trump protesters broke through police lines and invaded the Capitol.
The siege of the Capitol left four people – including a protester who was shot by police – and one police officer killed.
The FBI is still seeking information about those involved in the siege and, on Thursday night, tweeted photos of some of the pro-MAGA protesters, asking the public for help in identifying them.
