(CNN) – Dr. Anthony Fauci received special treatment when he left work on Wednesday.
EMS staff were waiting outside to serenade the good doctor before his 80th birthday on December 24.
Members of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad applauded Fauci and sang the birthday song when he left.
Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease specialist, has achieved international fame for his role in fighting the coronavirus.
He said that this birthday and Christmas will not be like other years.
Following his own guidance, he will avoid vacation travel.
He will miss spending Christmas and his birthday with his daughters for the first time since they were born.
It is sad, said Fauci, but he feels the need to practice what he preaches.
