He said the pace will increase due to government programs that allow pharmacies and community health centers to administer injections.
“I imagine that when we arrive in April, that would be what I call the … hunting season. That is, virtually anyone and anyone in any category can start getting vaccinated, ”said Fauci.

However, he added that it will still take “several more months” to put the vaccine in people’s arms, but that he expects the overwhelming majority of people in this country to be vaccinated by the end of the summer.
Although the pace has increased to around 1.5 million people a day, the distribution of vaccines in the country has been irregular, hampered by scarcity of supplies and different approaches in each state.
There are only two vaccine companies authorized in the United States, but Johnson & Johnson is scheduled for federal review later this month, potentially increasing the supply already available in March.
New cases, hospitalizations and even deaths, which reached historic levels after the holiday season, have steadily declined in recent weeks, but some 3,000 people still die each day.
Experts compared the current situation to calm before the next storm, when more contagious variants become the dominant strain in the country. Still, although Fauci said he was taking threats from new variants seriously, he was not too concerned.
“The worrying news is that it spread more quickly. We know this from the UK experience. The encouraging news is that the vaccines we have now, Moderna and Pfizer and, most likely, those that will be online soon, seem to have perform well against this UK variant, “said Fauci.

Fauci added that people should continue with preventive behaviors, such as physical distance and wearing masks, but if they have been doing it all the time, nothing should change.
Fauci also clarified that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday do not recommend that people wear two masks. The agency has updated guidelines on mask fitting to emphasize that the tighter the fit, the better the protection.
“What the CDC is saying is, at the very least, to wear a mask. OK? That’s what they are saying. Make sure you wear a mask,” said Fauci.
“So you want it to fit better, so one of the ways to do that, if you want, is to put a cloth mask on top … That’s all they are saying,” added Fauci.
