Fauci advises relaxed meetings in homes for vaccinated individuals, but not ‘outside the community’

Dr. Anthony Fauci revealed that the CDC is working on recommendations for individuals who received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, with some recent studies offering a promising measure to determine when states can relax general restrictions.

Speaking on talk shows on Sunday morning, the president’s chief medical advisor discussed the benefits of an aggressive vaccination campaign – most importantly, the ways in which individuals can relax and resume some things “that we hadn’t talked about before” .

“The CDC will be launched in the coming weeks, perhaps even earlier, with some guidelines,” Fauci told “State of the Union” host Dana Bash. “But one of the things that I think will become clear is that if you have adults who are vaccinated – who are doubly vaccinated and protected – you can do things that we were not talking about before.”

“You can have dinner in a house without masks. You can have friends who are doubly vaccinated and protected along with you,” he added. “That way, you can start doing things essentially at home, where you are not in the community.”

The guidance follows the approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for emergency use. Some people have expressed concern about the vaccine, which is 72% effective compared to the much higher efficacy of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, although the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one injection, as opposed to two for others.

The more people get the vaccine, the sooner states can reopen properly. Fauci urged caution when using the decreasing number of cases as a green light to ease the restrictions; however, recent studies have provided a measure to better understand when it would be safe to do so.

“We have some preliminary data for some Israeli studies that the level of virus in the nasal pharynx of vaccinated people is extremely low,” Fauci told presenter George Stephanopoulous of “This Week”. “If that is the case and future studies show that it is so low, then you will remove some of the restrictions.”

When asked about the reduction of some security measures, such as cutting the social distance from a meter and eighty to a meter, Fauci refused to give any guidance.

“I’m not going to make a judgment about it because I don’t know this specific situation here, but I can say that the CDC continually looks at things and reevaluates things,” said Fauci. “I don’t want to jump ahead because I need to see the specific situation.”
