Father, 12-year-old daughter killed in Shelby Township accident

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 45-year-old Macomb Township man and 12-year-old daughter died in an accident in the 21 Mile Road and Van Dyke area in Shelby Township.

Shelby Township police and firefighters were dispatched around 6:15 pm on Tuesday for an accident involving two vehicles. Police said one of the vehicles, a Dodge Ram, was engulfed in the flames.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Dodge Ram was traveling north on Van Dyke, turning left on 21 Mile Road when a commercial truck was heading south on Van Dyke, traveling on 21 Mile Road.

Police said the man who ran the Dodge Ram and his two sons, both 12, were taken to a local hospital, where he and one of the children died. The other child is being treated for serious injuries.

Police said the man driving the commercial vehicle was unhurt.

This is an ongoing investigation.
