Far Cry 6: everything we know

The Far Cry series has been one of Ubisoft’s most striking open-world action and adventure franchises, with a focus on exploring and fighting hostile forces in exotic locations. In Far Cry 6, the franchise moves to a new location known as Yara, loosely based on the island and the history of Cuba. Set during a political and social revolution, the citizens of Yara begin their campaign to overthrow the cruel dictator President Castillo. Here’s everything we know about Far Cry 6 so far.

The story so far

Although previous entries in the Far Cry series have some loose connections, Far Cry 6 is a fully autonomous game that does not have many ties to previous games. It is likely to be better this way, considering that Far Cry 5 and its spin-off New Dawn unexpectedly brought the series to a post-apocalyptic setting. Far Cry 6 takes place in the present, with the modern world still intact. However, the scenario for this game is on the island of Yara, a country isolated from the rest of the world due to economic sanctions, as the developers explained in a conversation with GameSpot shortly after the revelation Playing as a native of Yara who joins forces rebels, you will make your way across the island dismantling the country’s power systems before taking on President Anton Castillo, played by Breaking Bad and Mandalorian actor Giancarlo Esposito.

Release date of

Following its revelation in August 2020, it was announced that Far Cry 6 would be released in February 2021. However, with the growing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the game’s release was delayed until later that year. There is currently no set date for a release yet. We’ll keep you updated on when Ubisoft reveals the final release date for Far Cry 6.

What platforms will it be launched on?

Far Cry 6 will be a cross-generation release and is currently set to be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and Google Stadia.

Is there a Multiplayer?

Like previous games in the series, Far Cry 6 will feature cooperative gameplay, allowing players to come together and explore the world together. Although the developers haven’t talked about the exact scope of the next game’s co-op component, we know it’s similar to previous games. In co-op, you and your friends can take on side missions and activities in the world, but history missions are left as solo commitments. As more details are shared, we will update this post to better explain how co-op will work.

While no gameplay for Far Cry 6 has been shown yet, the game’s reveal trailer is a great piece of humor that sets the stage for what’s to come. In the trailer, we see President Anton Castillo talking to his son about the need for severe government within Yara. This exhibition is set against the backdrop of Yara’s unrest, with the country’s rebellious citizens in conflict with the Castillo military. This shows a bleak situation, and it will be interesting to see how the final game will give shape to the narrative and the main villain, who may have more ambitious plans to govern than it may initially seem.
