Fan celebrates PlayStation’s birthday by creating a PS5 inspired by PS2

Someone designed the PlayStation 5 to look like the iconic PS2 console before the company’s 30th anniversary in 2025.

A Reddit user made a custom fan design for the PS5, based on the PlayStation’s 30th anniversary in the future. The design is reminiscent of the PS2, featuring many important features that make the console recognizable.

The most notable design choice is to have the entire console with a black coating, to invoke the feeling of nostalgia. Currently, the system comes only in white, with its two removable front plates.

One of the most exclusive features is the inclusion of the PlayStation logo, which was originally found on the PS2 disc drive. In the custom design, it sits at the bottom of the console and on the side of the front panel. It also replaces the PlayStation logo on the DualSense controller.

Finally, a special PlayStation 30th anniversary sticker, with a simulated lot number to suggest its limited edition, is also found on the bottom of one of the front plates.

Many opposed the white design, hoping that several other colors would be available. While it is possible for the PS5’s front panels to be easily removed, Sony has yet to confirm whether any other iterations will come in the future.

An independent company known as the original CustomizeMyPlates sought to create its own versions of faceplates as third-party PlayStation peripherals. It was reported that Sony would have threatened legal action against the company, forcing them to cease production. As a result, all customers who had pre-ordered a PS5 front panel were refunded.

KFC has also recently entered the gaming spectrum, with the goal of creating its own exclusive console. KFConsole is a hybrid of a powerful gaming PC and an internal heater for chicken and other foods.
