Actor Tom Kane – who lent his iconic voice to a plethora of “Star Wars” projects to “Archer” – tragically suffered a stroke in November that left him practically unable to speak.
Kane’s daughter Sam described the 58-year-old voice actor’s condition on her Facebook page on Wednesday.
“About two months ago, he had a stroke on the left side that caused him weakness on the right side and damage to the center of speech in his brain,” she wrote. “This means that he is now unable to communicate verbally efficiently, nor to read or spell.”
She continued: “He is still competent and very much himself, but he can only say a few words now.”
Unfortunately, while Tom is undergoing therapy in his hometown of Kansas City, doctors warn that “he cannot do narrations again,” according to the post.
However, Sam says his father “remains in a good mood and his extreme stubbornness helped him to show improvements in speech”.
A professional voice actor since he was 15, Tom is perhaps best known for playing Jedi Master Yoda and Admiral Yularen in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” as well as in the 2008 film. He also lent his voice to Admiral Ackbar in “ Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi ”.
Outside of “Star Wars”, Tom had starring roles and guests in “Archer”, “The Powerpuff Girls”,”“ Scooby Doo ”,“ Shrek 3 ”,“ Robot Chicken ”,“ Kim Possible, ”“ The Avengers ”,“ Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends ”,“ Iron Man ”,“ The Wild Thornberrys ”and dozens of other projects.
