Famous Fort Lauderdale site bans spring break under 23

A popular party venue in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is restricting who will be allowed to enter during spring break.

On Friday, The Wharf Fort Lauderdale posted an ad on social media, saying it would not admit any out-of-state spring holidays under the age of 23.

“During spring break, #WharfFTL will be over 23 years old for all guests with an out-of-state identity,” the ad said.

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the place also placed a sign near the entrance on Friday night that says, “You must be 23 or older to enter with an out-of-state ID.”

The newspaper reported that the new Wharf policy was designed to avoid large crowds and slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Emi Guerra, co-owner of The Wharf, told Sun-Sentinel that the bar would operate at 50-60% of capacity.

According to the newspaper, The Wharf closed “for months” in 2020 because of the pandemic and when it opened for just two days in November, it was quoted by health officials a few times after photos of the site were posted online showing unmasked customers who they were not following the rules of social detachment.
