Family and friends of plane crash victims face tragic losses as the federal investigation continues

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – An absolutely painful moment for several families in South Florida, as they mourn the loss of their loved ones after a horrible tragedy that no one could have foreseen.

Federal investigators removed the last of the wreckage on Tuesday when a small plane crashed into a moving vehicle the day before in Pembroke Pines.

Three people were killed, one of whom was just a 4-year-old boy.

The members of the Broward County School Board made a quiet moment for Taylor Bishop and his mother Megan, an assistant teacher at the Hollywood Hills Elementary School.

Megan was the only survivor of the accident.

Two people aboard the plane died when he hit Bishop’s car and set it on fire.

Taylor was wearing a seat belt and while he was rushed to the hospital, he died of his injuries.

Tuesday was a difficult day for students and staff at Bishop School, as they learned of the teachers’ injuries and unthinkable losses.

“This morning, my teacher said we have very sad news and she told me what happened,” said young student Nyla Denizard.

The NTSB is investigating what caused that plane to crash, so close to North Perry airport.

If the installation looks familiar, it is because Local 10 News has talked about crashes there before.

In the last five years alone, 14 accidents have occurred, with NTSB records showing almost 30 incidents investigated since 2008.

“They want it to be closed,” said Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank Ortis.

Although calls to close the airport date back decades, Broward County Mayor Steve Geller believes this is not the solution.

“Closing this airport is not an option, it will create more traffic elsewhere,” said Geller.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the two people who were on board the plane when it crashed.

The official cause of the accident remains under investigation.
