Fall 3-0 Chants for No. 10 Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, SC – Coastal Carolina’s women’s soccer team dropped 3-0 to number 10 in the South Carolina national ranking Gamecocks on Sunday afternoon in Columbia, SC. -3 in the season.

As was the case throughout the spring season for Coastal, the Chants used a mix of veteran players and rookies on Sunday afternoon, seeking to gain valuable experience for a very young team.

South Carolina, ranked nationally, beat the visiting Chanticleers by 28-3, with 14 shots on target. Gamecocks also had a 7-2 lead in corners.

Despite giving up the three goals, sophomore Ky Hudson recorded a record 11 career saves as a freshman Carleigh Frilles, second year Santana Pressleyand junior Mackenzie Cherry tried the three shots for Coastal.

Host Gamecocks opened the scoring in the opening minute, when Ryan Gareis defeated the Chants goalkeeper for Lauren Chang’s winning goal. The USC scored a second goal in the first 45 minutes, with Jylissa Harris filling the back of the net, with Catherine Barry and Chang making the double assist to lead 2-0.

Hudson made four saves in the first half of the game, while Frilles and Cherry fired shots that ended up going to the right.

In the second half, just 16 seconds from the clock, Barry, from South Carolina, scored the final goal of the match by a 3-0 lead.

Pressley from CCU fired a shot on 83 minutes that was high.
