Falcons injury report: 4 participants reportedly missed training today

We are on the last day of 2020 and also a few days from the final game of the Atlanta Falcons this season. If you are confused by the title, let me explain. Due to a positive COVID-19 test, the Falcons did not train on Thursday, but the team provided an estimated injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Thursday’s official practice report:

TOTAL PARTICIPATION

  • DE Steven means (hand)
  • C Matt Hennessy (knee)

LIMITED PARTICIPATION

  • RB Ito Smith (rib)
  • BY John Cominsky (shoulder)
  • LB Foye Oluokun (ankle)
  • G James Carpenter (groin)
  • DT Marlon Davidson (knee)
  • TE Luke Stocker (elbow)

NO PARTICIPATION

  • WR Julio Jones (hamstring)
  • CB Darqueze Dennard (quadruple)
  • WR Brandon Powell (foot)
  • DE Charles Harris (personal matter)

If you are thinking that this report looks identical to Wednesday’s practice report, you are not entirely wrong. The only change is that pivot Alex Mack, who lost last week’s game due to a concussion and was limited on Wednesday, has been removed. Mack was added to the team’s reserve / COVID-19 list on Thursday morning, which is not a big sign of his availability for the end of Sunday’s season.

Many expect this to be Mack’s last season in Atlanta, so it’s a terrible way to see him leave. With Mack probably eliminated on Sunday, expect to see rookie Matt Hennessy again, who will have another opportunity to prove that he is the future of the team at the center. Many will say that he did not play a phenomenal game last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, but you should keep in mind that it was his first start in his true position, and the Chiefs have a very experienced defensive front. I’m excited to see you have another chance.

Have a happy new year to everyone!
