Falcon and Winter Soldier writer addresses Bucky’s bisexual fan theories

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner, Malcolm Spellman, answers a question about speculation about Bucky Barnes’s sexual orientation.

The Falcon and the Winter SoldierThe showrunner and principal writer, Malcolm Spellman, addressed the fan theory that Bucky Barnes is bisexual.

Speaking for NMEit’s Amon Warmann, said Spellman, “I’m not diving into rabbit holes, but keep watching.” This was in response to the question of whether The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would give a definitive answer to speculations about Bucky’s sexual orientation.

The fan theories mentioned are derived from a popular Marvel Cinematic fan ship between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, with many fans choosing to read their close friendship as romantic. Although these theories have not been confirmed (or denied), this has not stopped fans from reading certain details on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. For example, in episode 1, “New World Order”, Bucky commented that he saw a lot of “tiger pictures” on dating apps, something he would probably see on men’s profiles.

It remains to be seen where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will follow with these tips for the remaining four episodes. However, Bucky, portrayed by Sebastian Stan, is a very different character from what he started out as in Captain America: the first avenger. The show will not only deal with Captain America’s legacy, but also with Bucky’s, according to Stan.
