Facebook problem disconnected iPhone users by mistake

If you woke up this morning and were inexplicably disconnected from the Facebook app on your iPhone, you are not alone. Facebook says that a “change in configuration” affected people’s ability to access the Facebook application on their iPhone on Friday night, but the problem appears to have been resolved for most users.

Facebook disconnected iPhone users

Interestingly, the problem appears to have primarily affected iPhone users. On Friday night, Facebook users for iOS accessed Twitter to ask why they were disconnected from the app for no reason. Some users with two-factor authentication enabled also struggled to regain access to their account, and some even had to upload photos with a valid ID to sign in. Affected users say that two-factor SMS authentication codes were too slow to send or not to send.

The problem was so widespread that it became a trend topic on Twitter while users speculated why Facebook had disconnected all iPhone users at the same time.

A Facebook spokesperson issued the following statement to Engadget:

“We are aware that some people are having problems accessing Facebook. We believe this is due to a change in the configuration and are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible. “

Facebook offered no additional details about what exactly happened. In a post on social media, the company said the “configuration change” was resolved around 6am ET on Saturday morning. The social network has never gone offline. The only problem was that iPhone users were disconnected from their accounts and some were unable to regain access easily.
