Facebook is said to be working on the Clubhouse competitor, Twitter expands Spaces beta

The Clubhouse is getting a lot of attention recently, as the new social audio chat network is receiving more users every day. In response to that, Facebook is said to be working on a competitor for the Clubhouse, while Twitter Spaces is expanding its beta program in an attempt to slow the growth of the Clubhouse.

For those who do not know the subject, the Clubhouse is a new social network based entirely on audio chats. Users can create and join rooms where multiple people chat in real time, which can be compared in some ways to a live podcast.

The social network has gained a lot of strength in recent weeks, as there are several influencers who have interacted with users at the Clubhouse, not to mention the variety of discussion topics that you can find there. This, of course, made other companies interested in building their own audio platform before the Clubhouse became even more popular.

As reported by New York Times, Facebook is already working on a competitor for the Clubhouse. Sources told the NYT that Mark Zuckerberg himself expressed interest in a new platform for audio communication. Zuckerberg even joined some rooms at the Clubhouse on Sunday to talk about augmented reality.

Facebook executives ordered employees to create a similar product, known internally as Fireside, people said, who were not allowed to speak publicly. The product is in its early stages of development, they said, and the project’s codename may change.

At the same time, Twitter has expanded its new Spaces audio feature to more people. Twitter product leader Kayvon Beykpour confirmed the The Verge’s Tom Warren said that about 3,000 people were invited to test Twitter Spaces on Wednesday, while 1,000 users already had this feature enabled. Twitter Spaces works in a similar way to Clubhouse, in which users can create rooms to talk to others in real time.

It is not yet known whether Facebook or Twitter will be able to defeat the Clubhouse, but there are a few things to keep in mind for now. The Clubhouse is available exclusively for iOS (at least for now) and requires the receipt of an invitation from another user before entering the application.

Twitter Spaces is even more restricted, as it is also only available to iOS users during the beta phase, and guest users are selected at random by Twitter.

Facebook, on the other hand, is best known for creating cross-platform solutions and making them available to as many users as possible. However, as privacy concerns increase around Facebook apps, users may not like a Facebook app that constantly records audio.

If you are interested in trying the Clubhouse, you can download the app for free from the App Store and reserve your username until you receive an invitation from a friend.
