In a recent discussion of the popular Clubhouse app, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg focused on his company’s progress in the world of virtual reality, saying “we should teleport, not transport” and that VR could allow workers to meet virtually instead of traveling to offices.
The Daily Mail reports that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared on the Clubhouse app for guests only recently, where he discussed the progress of the social media giant in the world of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. Facebook is the owner of the popular company Oculus VR, which pioneered the world of conventional VR devices.
Facebook develops its VR and AR technology in its Reality Labs division. Zuckerberg stated during the Clubhouse meeting that “we must teleport, not transport”, and believes that VR is the way forward to allow people to experience new places and things without leaving their home.
“One of the things that [VR] will unlock is the ability to live anywhere you want and be present elsewhere and really feel like you’re there, ”said Zuckerberg. He added that VR can provide a new level of interaction in the workplace, as more people are working from home amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Zuckerberg said: “This will unlock a lot of economic opportunities because people will be able to live where they want and increasingly work where they want and kind of teleport to the place.” He added: “I am also very optimistic about the impact on the climate, in reducing the amount of displacement that people need to do”.
Discussing electric vehicles, Zuckerberg said: “I think the advance of electric cars in reducing emissions is great and exciting, but I tell my team that it is easier to move pieces of atoms, so we must teleport, not drive.
