An explosion was reported in downtown Nashville early on Christmas morning that was felt for miles.

Police and firefighters responded to an area near Second Avenue and Commerce Street around 6:45 am on Friday.

Authorities are at the scene trying to put out the fire and see if anyone is inside the building.

There were initial reports of structural damage, but no immediate information on whether anyone was injured.

Images and videos taken in the area showed flames and smoke – which could also be seen from miles away. Alarms inside several buildings were heard with water falling on some buildings with structural damage and broken windows.

The trees along Second Avenue were darkened by the incident.

This is a developing story.
