Explosion in California, fire reported outside LA; at least 3 seriously injured: reports

At least three people were in critical condition, fighting for their lives after suffering burns after an explosion near Los Angeles on Tuesday, which also caused a fire, according to reports.

The incident happened around 4:45 pm in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, FOX 11 in Los Angeles reported.

Authorities described the scene of the explosion as an industrial park, reviewing previous reports that suggested it was a film set, FOX 11 reported.

The crews managed to contain the fire in a single acre after it spread on a grassy hill, KABC-TV in Los Angeles reported.

The victims, who suffered third and second degree burns, were being treated at Henry Mayo Hospital, the police said.

Helicopter images showed teams examining cargo containers that were parked in the blast area, KABC reported.
