The following post contains spoilers for WandaVision, up to and including the end of the season.
For all the questions we got answered in WandaVisionend of the season – and there were many! – other aspects of Episode 9 left us feeling like a White Vision suddenly self-conscious: We ask for elaboration.
In the final episode of the Disney + series, we learned, among other things, the true identity of Evan Peters’s “Fietro”, “Agatha Harkness” and respective Tyler Hayward endings, and whether a familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe would emerge for the final installment . (Answer: No!)
But even after Hex fell and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was created in a post-credit scene, there was still a lot to ponder about concluding the show – and we went straight to the source for an insight.
Below, WandaVision director Matt Shakman, executive co-producer Mary Livanos and writer / showrunner Jac Schaeffer answer our questions about big details (wait, where did White Vision go?) and small details (is the beekeeper okay?!). Read their opinions:
IT’S WHITE VISION NOW REAL EYESIGHT? AND WHY DID HE NOT GO TO WANDA? | After discussing the philosophy of the two Visions, Hex Vision restored White Vision’s original data, allowing White Vision to remember its relationship with Wanda and the destruction of Mind Stone. “I am the Vision,” White Vision then declared, before flying … somewhere … and disappearing for the rest of the ending. But it’s him in reality the original View again, now that your data has been recovered?
“I’m sure there will be many opportunities in the future to respond to that completely,” suggests Livanos. “We find it very convincing that he gets the data back. Whether or not this makes him a full and complete view has not yet been answered, but it is probably safe to say that he still needs to grow. We’ll see what the future holds. ” (AND Why White Vision’s data recovery “doesn’t make him the same guy” as before, Livanos says that may explain why he didn’t immediately fly to Wanda to help bring down Agatha. “We’ll just have to see where he will appear next and what his journey is,” she shares.)
WHY DON’T DOCTOR STRANGE APPEAR? | Amid wild fan speculation about which MCU or X-Men characters can make a cameo, the character of Benedict Cumberbatch has always made more sense; the Supreme Sorcerer was even quoted in WandaVisionthe end of, making its eventual absence even in the post-credit scenes a little uncomfortable.
“There were a lot of conversations. We talked to the team at Strange 2, and that’s how it all happened, ”says Schaeffer, when asked if Cumberbatch’s appearance was the initial plan that just couldn’t work. She is even more silent about whether the WandaVision The team contacted Cumberbatch camp for this to happen, telling us, “I can’t talk about that kind of thing.”
WAS DARCY MEANING TO HAVE A BIGGER FINAL ROLE? | Kat Dennings’ funny astrophysicist uttered exactly one line in Episode 9 – “Have fun in prison!” she told Hayward after boning his vehicle – so she was visibly absent from a scene in the middle of the credits that apparently he must include it. For Livanos’ knowledge, “I don’t think [Dennings’ absence] had to do with anything related to COVID “, although WandaVisionThe last days of production took place in the middle of the pandemic. “We love Darcy as this elusive and crazy character, and I find it particularly wonderful that Darcy could appear anywhere in the universe.”
WHAT HAPPENS TO MONICA AND CAPTAIN MARVEL? | By Livanos, the apparent friction between Monica and Carol Danvers – which was strongly suggested during Episode 4 – was not necessarily resolved during WandaVisionruns. With the next Monica showing up in Captain Marvel 2, Livanos confirms, “We suggest that there is a bit of tension for her and Captain Marvel in the future, but we look forward to exploring that at another time.”
WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE COMMERCIAL ACTORS? | Wanda’s commitment to sitcom life extended to WandaVisioncommercials, which Shakman confirms they were Creation of Wanda along with the rest of the broadcast. “Wanda gave papers to almost everyone in Westview,” he clarifies. “These two actors, or city dwellers, that we chose for the commercials should be the same as everyone else – who were iterating over time, just as Wanda’s car is a red Buick that iterates over time. Wanda has cast these two to be his commercial actors, and they appear in every episode and are part of the broadcast. “
And while the commercials were partly for viewers’ entertainment (and a fun Easter egg hunt for MCU fans), “it was also meant to be a repository for Wanda’s unconscious,” Shakman told us. “She is putting something in these commercials that are clues to some of the great themes in the series.”
AND THE BEEKEEPER? | With commercial stars presumably safe now that Westview has been stripped of Hex, what should we do with that SWORD operative who became a beekeeper when he pierced the barrier? Wanda “rewound” his sinister appearance in episode 2, and he was never mentioned or seen again. Is he trapped in some kind of Westview purgatory?
“It was so fantastic to see the world’s response to the beekeeper”, admits Livanos with a laugh. “You know, at the end of the show, Wanda drops her Hex to save the people of Westview from the trauma she was projecting. So, I hope he is fine. We all hope for the best for him. “
