Avalanche fans can breathe a little easier now. Colorado Hockey Now I learned that superstar striker Nathan MacKinnon must be on the ice for Friday morning’s skate and, if things go well, he will usually be in lineup for the game later that night against the Anaheim Ducks. In addition, Cale Makar, who has lost the last three games due to an upper body injury, will lose two more this weekend. But, the good news is that Makar should be back on the schedule next week.
The Avs, for sure, are feeling lucky after MacKinnon’s blow to the head last night in San Jose did not result in anything more serious than what would remain in the books, as only a third period missed partially. Here’s the thing: MacKinnon is expected to be on the ice for morning skating, but there are is still the possibility that maybe things don’t look right when that happens. But on Thursday night, there was a good deal of optimism that MacKinnon will verify everything well.
Makar, again, will not play this weekend against Anaheim. But his injury is due to be healed next week and then he will be back to being a player. I am not sure what the injury is / was. So I am not going to speculate. Although I think I know what it is. OK, continuing …

By the way, the NHL today granted a two-game suspension to San Jose’s Joachim Blichfeld for the MacKinnon coup. Here is the league’s explanatory video on this:
