Ex-CSI player ponders playing against Dawn Staley and South Carolina

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KMVT / KSVT) – We spoke to former CSI Golden Eagle Finley Garnett last week after Idaho State held the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. Another former player is also playing on “Big Dance” and is Allie Thayne.

The junior helped Mercer University win the Southern Conference Championship against Wofford 60-38, getting seven rebounds in the game. His team, ranked 16th, is currently in Texas preparing for Dawn Staley and his number 1 seeded in South Carolina Gamecocks.

“Dawn Staley texted my coach saying congratulations to her team and it was a second of ‘oh my God, she’s talking about me, like I’m in her brain’, even for a second!” Thayne added: “It has been a very interesting transition and with the whole season so wild, just being able to experience it is something that many people cannot experience, it is crazy”.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Thayne is not allowed to physically interact with her teammates, except on bus trips to take tests and travel to practice, but despite having to be in a “bubble”, playing basketball is better than not playing at all.
