Fantasian is a new turn-based JRPG inspired by Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu’s FF6.
Mistwalker and ex Final fantasy director Hironobu Sakaguchi revealed new details about Fantasian at the Game Live Japan event organized by Famitsu on March 7 – including details about the battle system, new screenshots and an estimated release date. We summarize everything below. Various trailers and screenshots are also included at the end of the story.
Hironobu Sakaguchi is the producer and writer of Fantasian. The game’s director is Takuto Nakamura. And the promotion is done by Saho Nishikawa. The final part of the Fantasian segment also had Final Fantasy 7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase as a guest.
Fantasian is a new JPRG from Mistwalker and an Apple Arcade exclusive.
Fantasian will be released in Japanese and English on Apple Arcade. A release date for Fantasian has not yet been announced by Mistwalker, and it will be soon.
Why Hironobu Sakaguchi decided to do Fantasian?
Hironobu Sakaguchi explained that he had the idea for Fantasian following your live broadcast series. Where he and several original members of the Final fantasy 6 made a “let’s play” game in 2018. The streams most notably included designer Kazuko Shibuya.
Fantasian uses a diorama aesthetic for your graphics
Fantasian most notably it is a diorama game. Hironobu Sakaguchi explained the FF6 let’s play was on an old CRT TV. Then he came up with the idea of using the diorama to give players a nostalgic and oldschool feel similar to that.
FantasianThe developers asked 150 artisans across Japan to make all of the game’s locations. Then, the dioramas were recreated in the game. There are more than 150 dioramas in total in Fantasian. Hironobu Sakaguchi said jokingly that one day they could exhibit dioramas in museums.
Nobuo Uematsu composed all the songs in Fantasian
Nobuo Uematsu, known by the OST in Final fantasy games, consisting of all the music in Fantasian. There are more than 60 tracks in total.
Fantasian Features Trailer of the Famitsu version explained the battle system and the Dimengeon system
The trailer is on the 6:07:25 timestamp. It has more gameplay scenes than the trailer version of Features unveiled in early March.
Fantasian uses a standard JRPG turn-based battle system with random encounters.
Fantasian has a battle system similar to oldschool Final fantasycompared to action-oriented ones, as in Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, there is no ATB and it is 100% turn based. However, players can trigger Dimengeon to capture enemies they would normally encounter and send them to another dimension. Then, at any time, players can enter Dimengeon and fight all the enemies captured so far at once.
Hironobu Sakaguchi explained that he had the idea of the Dimengeon system because of Fantasiantouch controls.
Imagine that you touch a chest on the map with your finger, so that the protagonist begins to move towards it. However, a random encounter is triggered. Once the battle is over, the protagonist will be immobile again and you will have to touch the chest again. The Dimengeon system avoids situations like these.
You can stock up to 30 enemies at the start in Dimengeon. They will appear in successive waves when there are many. There is also a special trick to make battles easier. Players will be able to update the Dimengeon limit in addition to 30 enemies.
The battle system has a sighting system similar to Time trigger to set a common example. In addition, certain abilities attack in a straight line, while others have a curved trajectory. You can aim the ability to hit as many enemies as possible.
How long will it take to win Fantasian?
According to what was revealed in the broadcast, players will take between 20 and 60 hours to complete Fantasian. It will depend on whether they focus on the main story or not.
Furthermore, Fantasian will be divided into two parts. similarly to Final Fantasy 6. The first part will be straightforward. In the meantime, the second part will include many sidequests. You know what I’m talking about if you played FF6.
Party members in Fantasian
There will be eight party members in total. Three party members fight in the battle. However, starting the second half of the game, you will be able to switch freely between the 8 members of the group during the battle.
