Everything Clayton White said at his first press conference

South Carolina defensive coordinator Clayton White was introduced earlier this week and he is bringing a family defense back to the program. The attention when White was hired was in defending the 4-2-5 base that he plans to use with the Gamecocks, but there was much more to his hiring than just the formation.

Head coach Shane Beamer, who named White as his first defensive coordinator just a week ago, said the first feedback he would always receive when examining his hiring was how good he is on and off the pitch. Character is one of the main characteristics that Beamer sought in his hiring.

“I talked to a lot of people about him and the first thing everyone said is that you will not find a better human being in the country,” said Beamer.

“I talked to a lot of coaches as a defensive coordinator whom I trust and respect and heard them talk about him and his relationship with the players – I’m ‘excited to have him here. I am not the only coach in the country to recognize what an elite defensive coordinator is Clayton. We had competition for him. I am excited about what he will bring to the defense and the team he will form as well. “
