Everyone has a Buddy Pough story … or two, three or four. Getting them to tell all of these stories is more complicated.
“I don’t know if I want all the stories to be told or not,” said Pough, 66, the chief technician for the state of South Carolina.
It is a testament to the loyalty that Pough has generated in a 42-year high school coaching career that his closest friends actually avoid the best things.
“Some of them are funny Buddy stories, we can’t tell you,” said Thomas Saxon, who trained with Pough in high school and in South Carolina. “Sir, no, we can’t tell you.”
“There are a lot of things that come to my mind, but I definitely can’t say them,” said Gerald Harrison, the Bulldog defensive line coach for the past 18 seasons. “You cannot publish. He’s funny. He’s really funny now. He grew up during the time of Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx.
