Evan Fournier, newly acquired guard for the Boston Celtics, placed on health and safety protocols

Evan Fournier’s debut with the Boston Celtics will have to wait, as the newly acquired guard was placed on NBA health and safety protocols on Saturday.

“I don’t want to go into detail about everything, because I don’t know all the answers,” said coach Brad Stevens before the Celtics played against Thunder in Oklahoma City. “As far as frustration is concerned, it has been a very consistent topic for us to miss people. But I hope it is not in the long run. We will see how it all goes and we will continue from there.”

With Fournier cleaning up his physique on Friday, it was believed that he could make his Celtics debut against Thunder on Saturday. It is not clear whether Fournier was a positive test or discarded due to contact tracking. If it is the latter, according to league protocols, it will need to record negative tests for seven days before leaving quarantine.

Fournier was acquired on the Orlando Magic trading deadline day in exchange for two second-round choices. The 28-year-old has an average of 19.7 points and 3.7 assists, the highest record of his career, including 38.8% of 3 in more than seven attempts per game.
