Local police and firefighters responded to a fire at the Washington Potato Company commercial structure in Warden, Washington, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
There was a “risk of an ammonia tank explosion,” said the sheriff’s office.
Warden is located about 90 miles southwest of Spokane. The city’s population is approximately 2,800, according to a recent Census estimate. It is not clear at this point the exact number of residents who received evacuation orders.
Authorities issued a Level 3 evacuation, meaning “GO NOW” to “All areas west of U-SE Road and south of SR170, Warden,” said a tweet from the sheriff’s office on Thursday..
“Police officers will go from door to door notifying people in the Level 3 area,” read the message.
Authorities said there have been no reports of injuries so far.
“The Red Cross can provide assistance to the homeless by #WardenFire,” tweeted the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Washington Potato Company, owned by Oregon Potato Co., it is known for “premium quality dehydrated and dehydrofrozen potato products both domestically and worldwide.”
