ESPN: Matthew Judon’s “personal attacks” on Jamison Hensley were “completely unnecessary”

Ravens linebacker Matthew Judon reacted to a report he didn’t like with an exaggerated threat to release photos of the reporter at a strip club. Judon’s agent declined to comment. On Thursday afternoon, ESPN issued a statement.

“We supported Jamison Hensley’s reporting, and Hensley added Matt Judon’s perspective into the story,” an ESPN spokesman told PFT via email. “Regardless, the personal attacks that have since been ruled out against him have been completely unnecessary.”

Judon actually deleted the tweet containing the threat to release pictures of Hensley at a strip club. Some wonder if the threat amounts to extortion, in violation of the law. Others shrugged at the threat, as Hensley has every right to go to a strip club if he wants to.

The incident becomes evident because such extreme reactions are rare. If that kind of threat is ever justified (and it’s hard to imagine a situation where it would be), it would be much more than Hensley’s report on Judon’s alleged rejection of a long-term offer could guarantee.

The Ravens have not yet responded to a request for comment on the matter. They currently need to decide whether to apply the franchise mark to Judon if they cannot sign it in a long-term agreement before the window for applying the mark closes on March 9.

Since the Ravens scored Judon in 2020, their 2021 franchise contest would be determined by applying a 20 percent increase. That would push his salary from $ 16.808 million last year to $ 20.17 million this year.
