Jimmy Garoppolo is the most likely candidate to be San Francisco’s starting quarterback in 2021, and it looks like this is good for the 49ers. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently reported that Niners are among the teams that Deshaun Watson is “intrigued” with. The quarterback wants to leave Houston, but the Texans do not want to negotiate and are still hoping to reconcile their differences.
Fowler added to SportsCenter this weekend that it would be a monumental opportunity, like adding Watson, for 49ers to even consider Garoppolo’s move.
“I was told that San Fran is looking for potential improvements, but they still like Jimmy G,” said Fowler via Bleacher Report. “He has 24-9 as a starter, including the playoffs, with the Niners. They believe they can win with him, but it would take a big blow, like a Deshaun Watson effect here, to make this change. And I was told that the 49ers is one of the teams that most intrigue Watson. “
It’s only been a year since San Francisco was playing in the Super Bowl. The 2020 crash was due to injuries, and with the right offseason moves, the 49ers could return as a candidate in 2021.
Garoppolo’s ability to win football games for San Francisco has never been in doubt. The concern involves their availability. The defender has lost 23 games in the past three seasons, including 10 last season. He passed 1,096 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions in his six appearances.
Upgrading to Watson would instantly make San Francisco a favorite to represent the NFC at the Super Bowl LVI. Of course, it would also cost a lot. Texans are expected to raise significant capital and possibly some talented young players for Watson, if the quarterback can force a switch.
Fowler added: “A source said, ‘Which quarterback wouldn’t like to be on the attack on that team with all those guns and Kyle Shanahan?’ So always a possibility, but the Texans have made it clear that they are not willing to negotiate with Watson now. Garoppolo is still a viable option for San Francisco. ”

As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepared to play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl LV, NFL Media’s Gregg Rosenthal took a look at the other NFC squads and highlighted a potential move for each that would allow the team to reach or even overcome the Bucs next season. What would it take for Coach Kyle Shanahan and his San Francisco 49ers to make their second Super Bowl appearance in three years? Surprise surprise. The answer was Deshaun Watson. Watson was Rosenthal’s response to two other NFC squads as well – the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears. But there is no doubt that the 49ers could be the team to jump to the top of NFC power

Fans would probably prefer to see the San Francisco 49ers stay with Jimmy Garoppolo instead of giving up significant capital to any potentially available defender not named Deshaun Watson. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports noted in the pre-game coverage of the chain’s Super Bowl LV that 49ers are among the teams “very interested” in acquiring the Watson from the Houston Texans, if one is available. “Deshaun Watson, he still really wants to get out of Houston,” said La Canfora. “The Texans are saying to the teams, ‘We are not negotiating with him.’ This can change with the draft. I can tell you, the 49ers, the Panthers (are) among the teams very interested in Deshaun Watson, as well as the Jets. “The competition for Watson can get hot if the Texans try to move him. It is unknown

Trotter says his ‘mind just explodes’ thinking about Deshaun Watson and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan

Like many San Francisco 49ers fans, NFL Media reporter Jim Trotter would love to see coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch chase Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Assuming that Watson can convince Texans to negotiate, acquiring the quarterback will be expensive and there will be competition. How long would 49ers last in a bidding war for the revolutionary quarterback, and how comfortable would they be in surrendering? Although Watson has repeatedly indicated that he does not wish to play another snap in Houston, the Texans have said they do not wish to change their quarterback. The situation may change if the impasse continues. “One thing we know is that there will be a quarterback game this season,” said Trotter in the NFL

La Canfora: 49ers may need to trade more than draft choices for Deshaun Watson; Sam Darnold, a possibility

Jimmy Garoppolo remains the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers at the start of the off-season. There is a good chance that he will be starting the first week of the 2021 season. This does not mean that the 49ers’ trusted team will not look at all the possibilities of upgrades in the quarterback, as it does in all off-seasons for each position group. The 49ers reportedly had some arguments around Matthew Stafford before the Los Angeles Rams surrendered to the Detroit Lions for the quarterback. NFL member Benjamin Allbright recently named San Francisco among the teams that “made calls” to
