Eric DeCosta is not concerned with attracting wide receivers to Ravens

If you are a free agent wide receiver who cares a lot about catches and yards, the Ravens are probably not the top destination on your list.

As TheAthletic.com’s Jeff Zrebiec pointed out, the Ravens had only 406 passing attempts in 2020, which is 157 less than the league average. This results in 9.8 fewer passes per game.

While Baltimore finished 7th in points scored, the club was 19th in yards because it was the last to pass. Marquise Brown ended with a 769-yard team lead.

The Ravens could undoubtedly use a leading receiver. And despite insignificant passing statistics, general manager Eric DeCosta is not so concerned with attracting a top WR to Baltimore.

“I really don’t think about it much,” said DeCosta, via Zrebiec. “Basically, what I do is evaluate the players and then, if we like them, we call the agent and we call the player. If they want to play for us, great. If they don’t, OK – that’s the way it is. There is not much rocket science involved. “

The flip side of this is that Baltimore has been a consistent candidate, with John Harbaugh presiding over just one losing season since taking over as coach in 2008. But players like free agents Kenny Golladay and JuJu Smith-Schuster may be more inclined to sign elsewhere if your goal is to be a true No. 1 in the league.
