Eric Bieniemy: The Eagles reportedly request an interview with the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles requested an interview with the head coach of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, according to a report by the Mike Garafolo, NFL insider. It is unclear when Bieniemy will be available for an interview, as the Chiefs are still alive in the 2021 NFL playoffs.

It would certainly be something if the Eagles fired former Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson just to replace him with his eventual successor in Philadelphia.

It seems that this is not likely to happen. As we wrote on Saturday:

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says Bieniemy is about to be left out of the hiring cycle for the second year in a row. He’s obviously a popular name with fans, but he hasn’t been linked to the Eagles until now [until now]. There are some reports about Bieniemy interviewing badly. There is also your “uncomfortable past” to consider. Fowler says the Eagles are “eyeing other candidates”, indicating that their attention is focused elsewhere.

It is not difficult to understand why EB generated so much buzz, however. See how the Chiefs ranks in offensive scoring since being promoted to OC:

2018 – 1st
2019 – 5th
2020 – 6th

Of course, it is difficult to analyze exactly how much EB credit deserves on his own when he is not a full-time player and is working with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. But one would think that EB deserves some level of credit for KC’s success.
