The way WandaVision The closed episode 5 left us with questions quoting X, for sure. But two characters’ brief debate about EndgameThe ending was also intriguing.
In the middle of “In a very special episode”, SWORD captain Monica Rambeau, FBI agent Jimmy Woo and Dr. Darcy Lewis pause to take stock of “The Hex” and the hitherto invisible amount of power that Wanda would need to conjure and maintain the device. However, during this back-and-forth, things Monica said and did pointed to blanks to be filled in – if they didn’t suggest a kept secret.
Wait, what? The first obstacle that this dialogue reaches is when Monica seems to offer a first-hand testimony on how Avengers: Endgamethe final battle of. On the one hand, she was certainly not available for this; she had just unpacked in her late mother’s hospital room. Two, there is no next day box score for the Avengers fights. There is not Sports center recap. And while at least one podcast I hear claims that many beings were present for the post-Snap release, I don’t really see them running to give post-game interviews.
So, what is Monica basing this opinion on? “She could have taken Thanos” and “Nobody else came close” are Strong statements to make. it is like this fervent endorsement of Wanda’s capabilities, it is almost as if the sorceress Sokovian’s publicist wrote it – if not the opinion of Wanda herself. It is provocative to think for half a second (before the theory falls apart) that Wanda blew Monica out of the Hex indeed escaped the prison in the form of a known ally, in order to strategize outside. But again, Monica has been too active a character for this theory to hold up. Right? Now, fan boy Jimmy, we can argue, can have first-hand access to information about how Endgame went down. Maybe even Scott Lang, who is certainly talkative after a few beers. And as a former SHIELD agent, he may have heard of Carol Danvers’ exploits in the 1990s, although it always seemed that Nick Fury kept everything secret.
No, the most notable here is Monica’s reaction to Jimmy’s statement. There is no indication of a warm familiarity with Carol Danvers, although we to know that one existed at least once, in 1995. Monica instead purses her lips, then rolls her eyes down, as if she prefers not to talk about Captain Marvel absolutely. And to be clear:
Brrr. Ok Monica really doesn’t want to talk about Carol Danvers. There is no more subtext. What could have happened between Carol and the daughter of best friend Maria Rambeau in the following decades Captain Marvel? This is a question that Captain Marvel 2, in which Teyonah Parris will play the adult Monica again, will you answer?
Some more theories and instinctive questions, coming out of Episode 5:
♦ Agnes was around the two times that Tommy and Billy appeared, and always had a joke to make about the unimaginable. Is she (whoever) facilitating their growth? If this mirage is “everything for the children”, maybe someone is in a hurry for them (and any latent powers) to reach maturity?
♦ If someone subscribes to the theory that Agnes’ true self is actually the victimizer of Westview, I would say that she forgot / fumbled with her speech (“Should we start at the top?”) As a means of pretending Wanda in that one is in control, perhaps to promote the division between it and the Vision.
♦ Vision’s co-worker, Norm, was definitely not talking about Wanda when, coming out of his fugitive state, he referred to “her” and the pain “she” was inflicting on him. Norm certainly knows Vision’s wife, he would have said her name.
♦ The acting director Heyward seems to intend to paint Wanda as a “terrorist”, choosing and characterizing behaviors from his past. Easy theory: Wanda discovered that Vision’s corpse was being wrongly tried, invaded to retrieve it, created and retired to Hex as a means of “resurrecting” it, and now Heyward is trying to recover his lost “weapon” – possibly enlisting another powerful sorceress, Agatha Harkness, to infiltrate.
♦ That final scene … well, it clearly increases lots of questions, having the X-Men The QuickSilver / Pietro Maximoff version of the films appears at the door of his “smelly sister” Wanda, instead of the MCU version played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Yes, Darcy noted that Wanda’s twin sister has been “overhauled”, but will she have anything to look forward to besides that? Darcy sees “that guy from american horror story”Playing Pietro? Will a facial recognition scan produce news about an event from one of the X-Men movies? Or will he just register as a stranger?
