Tonic Games Group, the parent company of Fall Guys Mediatonic developer, was acquired by Fifteen days and the developer of Unreal Engine, Epic Games.
Both parties shared blog posts announcing the acquisition moments after the deal was leaked by Bloomberg through a tweet. In the Epic Games post, the company notes that the game’s multiplatform focus is not going anywhere, as “Epic will continue to invest to make the game a great experience for players across all platforms.”
Epic Games is no stranger to acquisitions, although it usually tends to focus its M&A efforts on technology-focused companies, likely to bolster its Unreal Engine offerings. When you buy game studios, they tend to be the teams behind big multiplayer successes, like Fall Guys itself and its 2019 acquisition Rocket League Psyonix developer.

In their own blog post, the Mediatonic team notes that the move will help the studio improve Fall Guys, expand the reach of the game and help better support your large community. Cross-play support for media tips can be one of the areas where Epic Games can help you expand, along with other media resources. Fifteen days and Rocket League that could come to Fall Guys including account systems, cross-play and selection vs. selection modes.
